About Johnson Matthey

Johnson Matthey is the second-largest chemical company in the UK and a constituent of the FTSE 100 index. Founded in 1817, as of 2023, the company has an annual revenue of £14.9 billion, employs over 13,000 people globally, and operates in more than 30 countries and regions.

Johnson Matthey entered the Chinese market as early as the early 1990s, viewing it as a key component of its global strategy. The company has established several manufacturing and R&D bases in cities such as Shanghai, Suzhou, and Beijing, with its core businesses covering automotive emission catalysts, hydrogen energy, fuel cells, and fine chemicals. JM Catalyst Technologies develops and engineers catalysts and production plants to convert traditional (fossil) feedstocks and alternative feedstock (biomass, CO2, municipal solid waste, etc….) into the chemical building blocks and synthetic/sustainable fuels that society needs to thrive. Leveraging advanced catalyst technology, Johnson Matthey has made significant contributions to emission reduction and fuel efficiency improvements in China’s automotive industry. As the Chinese government actively promotes hydrogen energy development, Johnson Matthey is deeply involved in hydrogen infrastructure projects, collaborating with local companies to develop efficient hydrogen fuel cell and electrolyser systems, supporting the widespread adoption of clean energy.

In addition, the company emphasizes achieving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives, contributing to China’s “dual carbon” goals. Through localized production and innovative R&D, Johnson Matthey helps Chinese enterprises enhance their competitiveness, achieve higher environmental efficiency, and drive sustainable growth.
