Dr. Li Yao

     Managing Director of Q Energy

     Dr. Li Yao is the founder & managing director of Q Energy, a leading AI-based EnTech company based in Manchester with the vision to accelerate the transition to a net zero carbon future. 

He received his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Manchester and since then he has worked across academia, banking industry and settled in the technology industry. He has extensive knowledge and experience on innovations in Smart Cities and IoT technologies. He has successfully co-founded, led and grew a technology company, which was part of a flagship £10m IoT demonstrator project in Manchester. 

In 2018, Li founded Q Energy and the company is working on a number of pioneering projects. He firmly believes that with increasing smart devices and data becoming available in the energy sector, AI combined with innovative business models will reshape this industry. Li has been awarded as one of the top 5 of Asian Tech Stars in 2018.
